Getting Organized BEFORE a Ransomware Attack
By: Janna Pearman Jacobs
What would happen to your business if you had a Ransomware Attack? Attackers lock you out of your systems and you’re unable to fulfill customer orders or pay employees? In fact, customer orders were deleted and so was your inventory data and employee data. If this happens, are you confident you can respond and recover? Or do you think it won’t happen to me? It won’t happen to my business? Not being prepared is risky. With cyber threats escalating, ransomware attacks are not a matter of “if” but “when”. Confidence doesn’t come from wishful thinking.
How do you build confidence:
1. Assess your current capabilities:
➢ Do you have backups? Are you regularly testing recovery?
➢ Do you have a documented incident response plan? Are you practicing?
2. Identify gaps and map what you need, focusing on incrementally building and improving capabilities.
3. Learn and iterate, you won’t know your weaknesses until you start.
